Nigerians residing in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland will soon have access to an online passport renewal system, eliminating the need for physical visits to immigration offices.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), is scheduled to launch on February 7, 2025.
According to NIS spokesperson AS Akinlabi, the service is part of ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and accessibility for Nigerians abroad.
The program was first introduced in Canada on November 5, 2024, and has now been extended to additional regions.
During a visit to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap emphasised that the system allows passport applications and renewals to be completed remotely.
The NIS Mobile app, available on Google Play Store, enables applicants to complete the renewal process without biometric enrolment at a passport office.
The immigration service reaffirmed its dedication to leveraging technology for seamless service delivery to Nigerians worldwide.
Dabiri-Erewa described the European rollout as a major step toward modernising passport processing for Nigerians overseas.
She also pledged NiDCOM’s continued collaboration with the NIS to ensure the success of the initiative.
