The Federal Government has introduced new security measures aimed at addressing the persistent challenges of oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.
This initiative, which involves deploying advanced surveillance technology and increased security personnel, is expected to curb economic losses and enhance national revenue.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, disclosed that the government is collaborating with private security firms and local communities to strengthen monitoring efforts. He emphasised that these steps align with the administration’s commitment to safeguarding national assets and ensuring energy security.
Oil theft and vandalism have long plagued Nigeria’s petroleum sector, causing significant financial losses and disrupting production. Industry experts estimate that billions of dollars in revenue are lost annually due to these illegal activities.
Stakeholders have lauded the government’s initiative, describing it as a crucial intervention to stabilise the sector. The new measures are expected to deter criminal activities, improve crude oil output, and boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil industry.
