Veteran Nigerian juju musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has dismissed rumours of his demise, assuring the public that he remains alive and in good health.
On Tuesday morning, the music legend addressed the false claims in a lively video, where he performed a medley of songs in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin to emphasize that the reports were untrue.
Introducing himself in the video, Obey sang, “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk.” He followed this with a firm declaration: “It is fake news… I am alive. That is not the word Jesus has written.”
The death hoax, which began circulating on Monday, had sparked an outpouring of condolences across social media platforms. However, Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, quickly debunked the rumour during an interview with TVC, confirming the singer’s wellbeing.
“Let’s set the record straight, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is very much alive,” Olukole said, adding that the music icon recently celebrated a family event: the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse.
He further described the viral claim as “entirely unfounded,” urging fans to disregard the misinformation.
The false report surfaced just weeks after the legendary singer celebrated his 83rd birthday.
