The Lagos State Government has commended the Supreme Court for its verdict in Suit No. SC/1/2008, which invalidated the National Lottery Act, affirming that the regulation of lotteries and gaming falls under state jurisdiction.

Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, described the judgement as a victory for federalism and the constitutional rights of states.

He noted that the ruling solidifies Lagos’ position as the sole regulator of lotteries and gaming activities within the state through the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA).

Omotoso credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his advocacy for federalism, former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for initiating the suit, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

The statement urged illegal and unlicensed operators to regularise with the LSLGA or face prosecution, reaffirming the state’s commitment to responsible gaming practices and fostering economic growth through a regulated gaming industry.
