The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of the 300% salary increase for judicial officers in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Monday by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, during the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), where he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Law, confirmed the commencement of the implementation of the salary increase for judicial officers.

Fagbemi noted that this increment in salary is part of the Bola Tinubu administration’s efforts to strengthen the judiciary, stating, “The implementation of this has begun in earnest,” describing it as a crucial step in addressing the longstanding issue of poor remuneration for judicial officers.

This announcement follows Tinubu’s signing of a bill in August, which proposed a 300% increase in salaries and allowances for judicial officials.

Fagbemi further revealed that the Federal Government is planning a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s laws to meet the evolving needs of the country, and a team of legal experts has been assembled to carry out this task within a short timeframe.
