The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed that all versions of the naira, including the old and redesigned ₦1000, ₦500, and ₦200 notes, as well as the commemorative and previous ₦100 notes, remain valid without an expiration date.

In a statement by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Sidi Ali Hakama, the CBN dismissed rumours suggesting that the old notes would cease to be legal tender by December 31, 2024.

The apex bank referenced a Supreme Court ruling from November 29, 2023, which allows the indefinite use of all ₦1000, ₦500, and ₦200 notes.

The CBN advised Nigerians to ignore false information, continue using the notes for transactions, and handle them with care to maintain their durability.

Citizens were also encouraged to adopt electronic payment methods to reduce reliance on cash.
