The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has appealed to Nigerian youths to remain in the country, assuring them that ongoing economic reforms are designed to ensure growth and create opportunities for all.

Cardoso made the plea while delivering the keynote address at the 59th Annual Bankers Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos.

He emphasised that the CBN’s decisions are made with the people’s best interests in mind, aiming to build a sustainable economy where businesses and individuals can thrive.

He urged youths not to leave the country, cautioning that selling off assets in a rush to emigrate would benefit external buyers seeking bargains, while leaving Nigerians without opportunities to be part of the country’s growth.

“There are opportunities in the market today,” Cardoso said.

“We need to stay and be part of the solution for the better things that are to come.”

While acknowledging the impact of the reforms, Cardoso stressed that they are essential for addressing current challenges and securing a prosperous future.

He called for collaboration from all sectors—banks, businesses, regulators, and citizens—to build a robust economy where everyone can prosper.

“The vision of a thriving economy will not be achieved by one institution alone,” Cardoso added.

“It requires all of us to work together with unwavering resolve.”
