Justice Obiora Egwatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled March 25, 2025, for the hearing of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawsuit challenging her suspension by the Senate.

The senator, representing Kogi Central, had previously sought legal protection against an inquiry by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges. Despite securing a court order to halt the investigation, the Senate moved forward with her six-month suspension.

During the court session, legal representatives for some defendants claimed they had not received official court documents. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lead counsel, Michael Numa (SAN), insisted that all parties had been properly served, presenting affidavits to support his argument.

Justice Egwatu, after reviewing the case files, verified that legal notifications had indeed been issued to all concerned parties. Following a request from the Senate President’s counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, the judge granted an adjournment, allowing both sides to consolidate their submissions before the next hearing.

The judge further ruled that all necessary documents must be formally submitted before the next court date to ensure a fair and efficient process.

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Nwaebonyi, acknowledged the significance of legal procedures, stating that while the Senate remains committed to following due process, it is unusual for the judiciary to intervene in legislative affairs.
