The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and charged former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, for his alleged involvement in a ₦27 billion fraud.

Ishaku, who served as governor from May 2015 to May 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arraigned before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

During the proceedings, Justice Oriji granted Ishaku bail set at ₦150 million with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a director within the Federal Civil Service, while both must be residents of Abuja, with their addresses verified by the court registrar.

Additionally, the judge barred Ishaku and his co-defendant, Bello Hero, from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s permission.

The EFCC, represented by counsel Rotimi Jacobs, did not oppose the bail request, noting that the former governor had previously been granted administrative bail and had complied with its terms. The court has scheduled the trial to commence on November 4, 5, and 13, 2024.
