This comes after the Nigerian government had previously indicated that petrol production would start in September 2024.

The Nigerian Government Committee, led by Finance Minister Wale Edun, confirmed the September launch as part of their statement on crude oil sales in Naira to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

Aliko Dangote, owner of the refinery, had earlier announced in May 2024 that the plant would start producing petrol in June, eliminating Nigeria’s need for petrol imports.

However, the launch has faced multiple delays, with the target dates shifting from June to July, then August, and now September.

The refinery is reportedly facing issues related to crude supply and other operational challenges, which have contributed to the delays in production.

While the test-run of petrol production at Dangote Refinery marks progress, the actual commencement of full operations remains uncertain, with potential further delays looming.
