Dangote Refinery Set to Begin Petrol Sales.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is set to start selling Premium Motor Spirit(PMS), commonly known as petrol, after a successful test run. Moreover, the product is expected to reach the market soon, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNCPL) currently the sole authorised seller.

This development follows delays caused by crude shortages and disputes with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority (NMDPRA) over alleged production of substandard diesel.

However, the Federal Government intervened by mandating that crude oil be supplied to the Dangote refinery in local currency, which seems to be resolving the issues.

Petrol from the Dangote refinery was initially expected in June, but production was delayed due to a shortage of crude oil and regulatory disputes.

Additionally, Industry sources, who requested anonymity, indicated that the distribution and sales of PMS are being finalized in coordination with the Federal Government.

Recalls that the Dangote Group has accused international oil companies (IOCs) of prioritizing foreign markets, especially in Asia, over Nigerian refineries for crude oil sales.

Overall, Nigerians are hopeful that the commencement of petrol sales by the Dangote refinery will lead to lower pump prices.
