Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been released from an Ado Ekiti correctional facility after meeting stringent bail conditions imposed by a Magistrate Court.

His release was confirmed by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, who disclosed the update on social media platform X.

Farotimi had been detained over allegations of defamation against Afe Babalola, SAN, founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

His bail terms included a N30 million bond, two sureties (one a property owner), passport submission, and a restriction from granting media interviews.

Announcing his release, Sowore wrote: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”

Another lawyer and activist, Chii Odinakalu, also confirmed the development, urging supporters to stay vigilant.

He remarked, “In Ekiti, @DeleFarotimi has perfected bail & regained his freedom. To all the friends of Justice who have been vigilant through this, we say please remain vigilant. It is not the end nor the beginning of the end.”

The release follows support from prominent figures, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who had pledged assistance to meet the bail requirements.

Addressing supporters after his release, Farotimi reaffirmed his dedication to justice and truth, stating, “In my public advocacy, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know something, I will simply say I don’t know.”
