The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede (EFCC), announced on Wednesday that the commission will intensify its monitoring of bank transactions to curb the financial transactions to criminals, including bandits and terrorists.

Delivering a speech at the 2024 Annual Civil-Military Conference in Abuja, Olukoyede, represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, emphasized the connection between corruption and insecurity.

He illustrated that corruption fosters poverty, which in turn drives unemployed individuals into criminal activities such as banditry and terrorism.

Olukoyede vowed that the EFCC would heighten its scrutiny of banking transactions to prevent money from reaching criminal groups.

The EFCC’s focus on financial monitoring is seen as a key measure in reducing crime by cutting off funds used to sustain illegal activities.

In addition, the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Ibrahim, called for collective action from all Nigerians, stating that security is a shared responsibility and not just the duty of law enforcement agencies.
