Nigeria’s interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has named 23 players for the Super Eagles’ final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The list includes returning striker Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray, who missed Nigeria’s last game against Libya due to injury.
Osimhen, who scored in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Antalyaspor and the winning goal in their derby against Besiktas, is set to bolster the team’s attack.
Also making a return is Umar Sadiq of Real Sociedad, who re-joins the Super Eagles after an extended absence.
The matches will be pivotal as Nigeria leads Group D with 10 points, having been awarded 3 goals and 3 points for their abandoned match against Libya.
The Eagles are set to face Benin Republic on November 14 at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, with the Rwanda encounter scheduled for November 18 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
The abandoned Libya match stemmed from the team’s prolonged delay at a remote Libyan airport, where they were denied food and internet access.
After diplomatic intervention, the Eagles were able to depart and secure the points.
