Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court has refused to step down from the corruption trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, dismissing claims of bias.
The request for his recusal, made by Emefiele’s defence team on Monday, argued that the judge’s previous rulings favoured the prosecution. However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opposed the move, insisting that due process was being followed.
Delivering his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Oshodi stated that the defence failed to provide any concrete evidence of bias, reaffirming his position on the case.
“The allegations presented lack merit and are unsubstantiated,” he ruled. “The application for my recusal is hereby denied.”
With the judge’s decision, the trial will proceed as scheduled.
