Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fund misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds totaling ₦138 million.

Sources within the EFCC confirmed that Ohanenye arrived at the commission’s headquarters on Thursday morning and was interrogated regarding the alleged misuse of funds allocated to the ministry in 2023. Investigators reportedly uncovered discrepancies linked to the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative, with claims that funds meant for the programme were diverted for personal gain.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Ohanenye, who was among the ministers dismissed in October 2024, has since responded to the allegations. In a statement via her official X handle on Friday, she confirmed her visit to the EFCC, stating that she arrived at 2:15 p.m. and left at 6:50 p.m. after providing detailed clarifications on her financial activities while in office.

She praised the EFCC for its professionalism and reiterated her commitment to cooperating fully with the investigation.

Defending her tenure, the former minister insisted that she managed public funds responsibly and even contributed personal resources to support initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
