The Federal Government has approved an increase in the fees for procuring Nigerian passports, which will take effect from September 1, 2024.
This adjustment was disclosed in a statement by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), DCI Kenneth Udi, on the X handle (formerly Twitter) of the NIS, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Kenneth, the spokesman for the NIS, explained that the fee hike is part of the government’s efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
As per the reviewed fee structure, the cost of obtaining a 32-page Passport booklet with a 5-year validity has risen from N35,000 to N50,000. Similarly, the 64-page Passport booklet with a 10-year validity will now cost N100,000, up from N70,000.
The statement further addressed that the passport fees for Nigerians living abroad will remain unchanged.
Despite the increase, the NIS expressed regret for any inconvenience this might cause prospective applicants. They reassured the public of their ongoing commitment to delivering transparent and high-quality services.
