The Federal Government has allocated 24.78bn to 991, 261 households across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Teritory under its National Cash Transfer Programme.

According to a statement by the National Social Investment from NSIPA on Thursday, this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda to alleviate poverty”.

In August 2024, the government paid N3.83bn to 153,038 households, followed by N20.96bn to 838,223 households in September, with each beneficiary receiving N25,000 through designated Financial Service Providers.

NSIPA’s National Coordinator, Badamasi Lawal, emphasized that the programme aims to reduce poverty, enhance household finances, promote savings, and improve health and nutritional services for vulnerable Nigerians.

Lawal also expressed the agency’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in society through various social interventions.

In a related update, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, announced the second tranche of payments under the government’s cash-based Social Investment Programme, with around one million verified beneficiaries receiving direct payments.

During a meeting with the Presidential Panel on the Social Investment Programme, Edun highlighted the importance of digitising benefit distribution to ensure prompt and secure delivery.

The meeting also explored reforms to the School Feeding Programme and plans for the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office to partner with the National Identity Management Company to enhance outreach by integrating the National Identification Number (NIN) platform.
