The Federal Government has formalised the increase of corps members’ monthly allowance to N77,000 with effect from July 2024.
This decision follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which sets the minimum wage at N70,000.
Prior to this increase, corps members received N33,000 monthly, a figure that was last reviewed in 2019 following a minimum wage adjustment to N30,000.
The announcement was made in a statement by Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at the NYSC, referencing a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission dated September 25, 2024.
NYSC Director General, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, highlighting that this increase would enhance the welfare of corps members and motivate them in their service to the nation.
The statement emphasized that the new allowance aims to provide much-needed support to corps members, improving their morale as they continue their national service.
