The Federal Government and the Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced a collaborative effort aimed at promoting food security.

The partnership was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Kennedy-Ohanenye presented a proposal from the Federal Government, which focuses on providing machines for cassava processing into Garri flour.

She highlighted that similar partnerships have been initiated in other states as part of the government’s agricultural sector reforms, with a commitment to gender inclusivity—ensuring 30% representation for women and 70% for men.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his support for the initiative, noting that Lagos State already operates a large farm to enhance agriculture and is committed to food security and empowerment. He assured that Lagos is prepared to collaborate with the Federal Government to achieve the goals of the project.

Sanwo-Olu also emphasized that Lagos is always open to participating in initiatives that foster development and create employment opportunities for its residents.
