The Federal Government has postponed a scheduled meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally set for today.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed that the meeting which was intended to address ongoing disputes between the union and the government will no longer take place.
This postponement was announced by the Minister of Education last Friday, with no reason provided for the delay.
The meeting is now expected to be held on Wednesday, August 28.
Public University lecturers, represented by ASUU have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike due to the Federal Government’s perceived unwillingness to honour the 2009 negotiated agreement.
The notice is part of the resolutions reached at the national executive council meeting of the union, which was held at the University of Ibadan a weekend before.
This agreement of ASUU include university funding, welfare matters, and the proliferation of universities across the country
The planned meeting was to avert another disruptive strike in Nigeria’s public university system.
