The Federal Government plans to support 15 million households, about 75 million people, through its conditional cash transfer scheme.
Each household will receive ₦25,000 monthly, paid three times a year.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, unveiled this as a part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to ease economic hardship for vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Yilwatda explained that women are targeted as household heads to ensure the funds benefit children and vulnerable family members.
So far, five million people have been reached, but only 1.4 million have digital identities, which is now required to ensure transparency.
Efforts are ongoing to clean up the social register and include 12 million more households in the programme.
The scheme, initially paused in January over alleged corruption, was restarted in February to provide relief to struggling Nigerians.
