The Federal Government is set to roll out 60 buses as part of its efforts to provide free road transportation during the festive season.

This initiative, under the Ministry of Transportation’s free transportation programme, aims to ease travel for Nigerians.

Michael Oluwagbemi, Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, revealed this plan, noting that the buses will operate on interstate routes, including Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta, and neighbouring areas.

Currently, 15 buses already run between Abuja and surrounding locations such as Gwagwalada, Keffi, Nyanya, and Zuba.

Oluwagbemi added that the free transportation services would continue until early 2025.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has also declared free rides for 340,000 train users during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In addition, the government plans to cut transportation costs by converting cab drivers’ vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) by January 2025, with discounts expected for compliant operators.
