The Nigerian government has announced its preparedness to welcome and reintegrate citizens who may be deported from the United States following President Donald Trump’s intensified immigration enforcement.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasised the government’s commitment to assisting returnees during this transition.
Recent reports indicate that approximately 3,690 Nigerians in the U.S. are facing deportation as part of the current administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
To support returnees, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the British Council, has established a facility at Lagos airport.
This center is designed to provide necessary assistance, including addressing issues related to mental fatigue and depression among deportees.
Minister Tunji-Ojo highlighted the administration’s dedication to the welfare of all Nigerians, both domestically and abroad, stating, “We’re a responsible government and we understand what we need to do. Rest assured that we’re not going to shy away from such responsibility.”
The government urges the public to remain calm and supportive as efforts are made to ensure the safe return and successful reintegration of affected individuals.
