The Federal Government has unveiled 2000 CNG-powered tricycles on Tuesday, as part of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations.

This development was made through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi) and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

The event, held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, is aimed at empowering Nigerian youths and promoting the use of clean fuel.

Project Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Michael Oluwagbemi, stated that the initiative fulfills President Bola Tinubu’s promise to reduce transportation costs, improve economic conditions, and create jobs by promoting CNG-powered vehicles.

He revealed that the tricycles, assembled in Shagamu, would not only be used locally but also provide job opportunities in operations, maintenance, and deployment across the country.

Minister for Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, lauded the initiative for alleviating transportation challenges and supporting economic reforms.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the lives of young Nigerians and mentioned that the National Youth Investment Fund would support young entrepreneurs in the transportation sector.

As part of the development, the government plans to expand the initiative to a target of 2 million CNG-powered tricycles across Nigeria.
