Nigerian cinemas have recorded an unprecedented milestone, with ticket sales exceeding ₦1 billion in just one week, driven by Funke Akindele’s latest films, Everybody Loves Jenifa and Alakada: Bad and Boujee.

Data released by Nile Media Entertainment Group shows that between December 20 and 26, 2024, cinemas across the country generated ₦1.02 billion in ticket sales, the highest weekly total in the history of Nigerian cinema.

Everybody Loves Jenifa dominated the box office, grossing ₦782.8 million within 14 days.

The film, which has set multiple records, became the fastest Nollywood production to surpass ₦500 million in ticket sales, achieving the feat in just 12 days.

December 26 emerged as the most profitable day ever for Nigerian cinemas, with ticket sales amounting to ₦256.4 million.

Other top-grossing films for the week included Mufasa (₦173 million), Alakada: Bad and Boujee (₦127.3 million), and The Waiter (₦104.2 million).

Nile Media described the milestone as a testament to the resilience and creativity of Nollywood, highlighting the audience’s growing enthusiasm for locally produced films.
