Funmi Falana, SAN, Director of Women Empowerment and Legal Aid, has urged the Federal Government to introduce policies and programmes aimed at reducing the economic struggles faced by Nigerians.

Speaking during her annual Christmas celebration with children at the Erelu Angela Adebayo Children’s Home in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, Falana stressed the importance of allocating funds for orphanage centres in government budgets.

She explained that such funding would improve the management of these homes and complement the efforts of kind-hearted individuals and philanthropists.

“Orphanage homes deserve a special place in the budget. This would help them function better and add to the support they already get from good people,” she said.

Falana also criticised the large sums allocated to the National Assembly in the budget, saying that the government should channel more resources to help orphanages and support the less privileged.

During the event, Falana gave cash, food items, and drinks to the children and encouraged others to assist those in need.

“The economic hardship is affecting everyone, and the government must act fast to ease the pain. Women are crying, and children are struggling to cope,” she noted.

She linked recent tragic stampedes at charity events to the high level of poverty in the country.

“These events are meant to help, but the desperation caused by hardship is turning them into tragedies. It’s heartbreaking,” Falana said.
