The Nigerian government has approved a 100% increase in the cost of phone calls, SMS, and data, as requested by telecom companies like MTN Nigeria.
This decision was made to help the companies deal with rising costs caused by inflation and the falling value of the naira.
MTN Nigeria’s CEO, Karl Toriola, explained during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that the new prices will allow telecom operators to continue providing quality services and maintain their businesses.
“With this increase, we can invest in improving our networks, ensuring stable service, and addressing the challenges we’ve been facing,” Toriola said.
He added that Nigeria previously had some of the cheapest call and data rates in the world, but the current economic situation made the increase necessary.
Toriola assured Nigerians that the extra money will be used to improve network quality and ensure better services.
