The House of Representatives on Tuesday moved to investigate the non-delivery of 2,000 tractors, 100 combined harvesters, and other agricultural implements under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In November 2023, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security signed a five-year agreement with a private company to supply the equipment annually, at a total cost of $70,041,733.80 and ₦2,981,739,134.30.

The initiative aimed to boost food production, reduce inflation, and cut foreign currency expenditures on imported machinery.

However, a year later, not a single tractor or harvester has been delivered.

Honourable Saba Adam, who presented the motion on the House floor, described the situation as a setback to agricultural mechanisation efforts, adding that the delay has cost the country two farming seasons and undermines food sufficiency goals.

The Speaker approved the motion, directing the Committee on Agricultural Production and Services to investigate the breach of the agreement and report back within four weeks.
