Nigerian actor and activist, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has made it clear that he has no intention of acknowledging Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, despite public backlash.
The entertainer, who has been vocal about governance and social issues, responded to critics on Monday via social media, stating that he remains firm in his decision.
“This is the last time I will speak on this. It’s not worth my peace of mind. If you people won’t stop attacking me for not greeting Governor Sanwo-Olu, let me make it clear—next time, I still won’t greet him. Even if he calls me, I won’t answer. Cry today, cry tomorrow, cry forever,” he wrote.
According to him, the outrage over his choice not to greet the governor is unnecessary, as he believes citizens should prioritise holding leaders accountable rather than seeking unnecessary gestures of respect.
“The people are suffering! Prices are skyrocketing daily, yet instead of demanding accountability, some of you are busy worshipping your leaders,” he remarked.
While addressing his stance, Mr Macaroni pointed out that many Nigerians suffer from economic hardship yet still choose to defend politicians rather than demand effective leadership. He also criticised individuals who publicly oppose government figures but privately align with them for personal gain.
“Some people drag their state governors online daily, but behind closed doors, they collect envelopes and become their praise singers. It pains them when they see that not everyone is up for sale,” he added.
He further expressed concerns over what he described as a culture of blind political loyalty, stating that many citizens have become devoted to those in power instead of advocating for their rights.
Despite facing attacks over his views, the content creator maintained that his principles would not be compromised.
“I am no saint or hero, and I am far from perfect. I do what I do because I genuinely believe in it. Do I get tired of the insults? Yes! But never think for a second that I will betray my conscience,” he affirmed.
He also spoke against tribal divisions in politics, urging Nigerians to focus on unity rather than ethnic differences.
“Shame on those promoting tribal bigotry. But kudos to every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, who looks beyond this mischief and continues to push for peace and unity,” he concluded.
Mr Macaroni has consistently used his platform to call out injustices and promote good governance, often challenging political leaders on pressing national issues.
