The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has pledged to assess the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following her claims that the action was politically motivated and aimed at suppressing female participation in governance.

Speaking at the Women in Parliament session during the IPU meeting, Akpoti-Uduaghan decried what she described as an unfair sanction, highlighting the broader challenge women face in leadership. She linked her suspension to a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging retaliation instead of due process.

The IPU President, Tulia Ackson, assured that the matter would be examined with fairness, stressing the importance of hearing all perspectives before a resolution is made. A Nigerian delegate reportedly attempted to address the issue but was not given the floor due to time limitations.

As the IPU proceeds with its review, the case has sparked conversations about the treatment of women in politics and the institutional barriers they encounter.
