The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended admissions into the Law programme at eight universities following a directive from the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for the 2025/2026 academic session.
JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the development on Wednesday, stating that affected institutions include Kwara State University (KWASU), Bingham University, Redeemers University, Western Delta University, Taraba State University, Arthur Jarvis University, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, and the Nigerian Police Academy.
The suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend through the 2026/2027 academic session.
Reacting to the ban, KWASU assured that current law students would not be impacted.
The university’s Acting Director of Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, attributed the sanction to the institution’s commencement of its Law programme in 2018 without CLE approval, despite holding accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to compliance and urged prospective students to consider alternative accredited programmes.
