The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has issued a directive to vice-chancellors, provosts, and rectors of tertiary institutions across Nigeria, permitting the admission of candidates who are 15 years old but will turn 16 by August 2025.

This move is a modification of an earlier policy decision that required candidates to be at least 16 years old by December 2024 to qualify for admission in the 2024/2025 academic session.

In a letter dated October 16, 2024, signed by Muhammed Babaji on behalf of JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB acknowledged that some institutions may extend their admissions into mid-2025, thereby allowing for this flexibility.

Institutions are now authorized to admit candidates who will be 16 years old by August 31, 2025, as long as they meet the institution’s academic standards.

JAMB emphasised that institutions that wish to uphold the minimum age of 16 years by December 2024 are free to do so.

However, those willing to accommodate the new timeline should submit the list of eligible candidates by a week from the date of the letter.
