Following several backlashes from social media over a viral testimony given by a member of the church of the Lord’s Chosen, the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has instructed the leadership of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries to re-assess how its members share testimonies during church gatherings.
The testimony in question involved a woman who claimed that an old man appeared to her during an examination and provided answers, which she then shared with a fellow student from the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.
CAN’s Lagos Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, condemned the testimony as a fabrication, calling it misleading and damaging to the reputation of Christianity.
Speaking to Saturday PUNCH, Bishop Adegbite confirmed that a meeting was held last Friday at CAN’s secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, where representatives from the church were present.
During the meeting, CAN instructed the church to be more cautious and to review the way members present their testimonies going forward. The church was urged to vet testimonies before they are shared publicly to ensure they are truthful and appropriate.
Adegbite emphasized that CAN strongly rejects any testimony that is unreasonable, senseless, or potentially misleading.
He noted that over 100 attendees, including leaders from the five CAN blocs and coordinators from the 57 local government areas in Lagos, participated in the meeting and were unanimous in their stance.
He further stressed that while CAN recognizes that miracles still occur, only truthful and credible testimonies should be shared.
