The Lagos State Government has appealed to students to prioritise road safety to prevent accidents.
This call was made during the re-launch of the Lagos State School Safety Traffic Advocacy Programme in Ikeja, attended by primary and secondary schools.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare-Oki Olalekan, stressed the importance of teaching children to identify road hazards, assess risks, and practise safe behaviour.
He cited World Health Organisation data showing over 1.2 million annual deaths from road traffic accidents.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, highlighted the need for children to follow traffic rules, noting that road safety impacts everyone.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, represented by Olawale Musa, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to improving road safety knowledge and attitudes among young residents, aiming to reduce traffic gridlock and enhance safety across Lagos.
