The Lagos State Government has teamed up with the Federal Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to begin work on the Green Line rail project.
This was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Tuesday.
The 68-kilometer Green Line will connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, making it easier for people to travel and boosting business activities in the area.
Omotoso shared that the state completed 36 road projects in 2024, including bridges and walkways, and is working on 51 more across different parts of Lagos.
Some completed projects include the Arowojobe Link Bridge in Maryland, Sand Zero Road in Oyingbo, and Babafemi Dada Bridge, among others.
He also mentioned progress in Lagos’ Bus Reform Initiative (BRI). New BRT bus terminals are being built at places like Abule Egba and Iyana Ipaja.
The Ajah terminals and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway BRT infrastructure are almost finished.
Omotoso praised the completion of the first phase of the Red Line rail in 2024.
The 27-kilometer rail runs from Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo in Lagos, with eight major stations and links to bus terminals.
It started carrying passengers on October 15, 2024, and serves up to 500,000 people daily.
He added that the government is connecting the Red Line to the Blue Line rail and has started work on extending the Blue Line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
This partnership is another step towards improving transportation and growing the economy in Lagos State.
