Lagos State has welcomed five babies on the first day of 2025.
At General Hospital Ikorodu, Mr. and Mrs. Olaoluwa were the first to become parents, as they welcomed a baby girl at 12:34 am.
The second and third babies of the year were born to Gift Kchief and Funke Aderinola.
At General Hospital Ifako-Ijaiye, Mrs. Mary Osayomi gave birth to twins.
The first baby, a girl, was born at 12:14 am, and the second, a boy, followed at 12:15 am.
In General Hospital Isolo, Mr. and Mrs. Lawal welcomed their baby boy at 1:32 am, weighing 2.7kg.
The Chief Medical Director at General Hospital Ikorodu thanked the state government for improving the hospital’s services.
Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Lagos State’s special adviser on health, said the New Year baby celebration has become a tradition and encouraged residents to join the Ilera-Eko health insurance scheme.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who was also at the celebration, spoke about the joy that comes with the birth of a baby and promised ongoing support to improve Lagos hospitals.
