Retired military personnel under the Coalition of Military Pensioners staged a protest on Thursday, barricading the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja over alleged unpaid salary increments and entitlements.
The pensioners accused the Federal Government of failing to implement a 20% to 28% salary increment owed from January to November 2024.
They also criticised delays in disbursing palliatives, arrears related to a ₦32,000 pension increment, and the Security Debarment Allowance (SDA).
Additionally, they raised concerns over deductions from the pensions of medically discharged soldiers.
The retirees demanded urgent government intervention, vowing to continue their demonstrations until their grievances are addressed.
In a related development, the Senate has announced plans to investigate the Military Pensions Board.
Senator Olamilekan Adeola, Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, raised concerns about the board’s budgetary allocations and the accuracy of beneficiary records during the defence of the 2024 budget.
As part of the review, an additional ₦20 billion was proposed for the construction of the board’s office building and the renovation of phases one to four of the Federal Secretariat.
