Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a bail application by Tigran Gambaryan, the detained Binance Holdings executive.

Gambaryan, facing $35.4 million money laundering charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had sought bail for medical reasons, arguing that his health was deteriorating.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite acknowledged that Gambaryan’s health concerns were being addressed but ordered that he be transferred to a standard hospital in Abuja for treatment for three days to two weeks under security supervision.

The judge then set new dates; October 18, November 22, and 25, for the ruling of the case.

Gambaryan’s counsel, Mark Mordi, had argued that his client’s condition was severe, requiring surgery for a herniated disc and psychiatric care for depression and anxiety.

Mordi requested a six-week bail for Gambaryan to receive adequate medical care outside prison, citing insufficient treatment in custody.

However, EFCC counsel Ekele Iheanacho opposed the bail request, asserting that Gambaryan’s health condition was being exaggerated and that he could receive proper treatment at the Kuje Correctional Facility.

Iheanacho also revealed that Gambaryan had been taken to top medical facilities like the State House Clinic and Nizamiye Hospital, where comprehensive care had been provided.

Medical reports indicated that Gambaryan had refused certain treatments and medication, weakening the case for bail on health grounds.

The court ultimately ruled in favor of maintaining Gambaryan in custody, citing that his condition could be managed by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
