LMTN Nigeria’s CEO, Karl Toriola, has revealed that telecom companies are pushing for a 100% tariff hike, although it remains uncertain if the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will approve the proposal.
Toriola explained that the increase is essential for the industry’s survival amid rising costs such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and higher operational expenses like diesel and power generation.
The proposal comes after telecom operators warned of potential service disruptions unless tariffs are adjusted.
The sector has been facing financial strain, with no tariff change for over a decade.
Both MTN and industry groups are urging the government to work with stakeholders to find a solution that balances affordability for consumers and the financial stability of telecom operators.
