The Federal Government has extended Julius Berger’s deadline to September 2025 for the completion of the N280 billion Bodo-Bonny Road project in Rivers State

This announcement follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of an upward revision of the project’s contract sum to facilitate its timely completion.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed the new deadline during his inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Rivers State on Monday.

Umahi stated that the increase in the contract sum came after extensive negotiations with Julius Berger, who had insisted on the amount to ensure the project’s early delivery.

“We negotiated for one year, but Berger refused to shift ground. So, we have given them the total amount they requested, and the President has approved this request. The contract sum is now fixed at N280 billion. Julius Berger is expected to mobilise in at least three locations to ensure the job is completed on time.”

The minister stressed the importance of adhering to the project specification and announced that he would conduct two more inspections by the end of 2024 to monitor progress and ensure that the contractor meets the agreement.

Umahi assured that the Federal Government is keen on the road’s early completion, stating that President Tinubu has also involved the National Security Adviser and the CEO of NNPCL in discussions to ensure the project’s success.

He added that the road, once completed, would have a lifespan of 50 to 100 years without needing significant maintenance or reconstruction.
