The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant (50ml) due to safety concerns raised by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products.
The product, identified by batch number 93529610, claims to provide 48-hour protection in African climates.
NAFDAC reported that the recalled deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetics because it may harm reproductive health, affect unborn children, and cause skin irritation or burns.
The product is manufactured in Germany and has a Bar Code Number of 42299882.
The agency advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to be cautious within the supply chain to prevent the distribution and use of the affected batch.
Consumers in possession of the product are urged to stop using it and return it to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse effects from regulated products to NAFDAC via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, the E-reporting platforms on the NAFDAC website, or through the Med-safety application available on Android and iOS.
