The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the illegal sale and distribution of Foula Condoms, an unregistered brand, discovered in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Zango, Katsina State.

NAFDAC officials from the Post-Marketing Surveillance directorate found the product during a Risk-Based Post Marketing Surveillance study on registered condoms.

Foula Condoms, packaged in sets of three, are not approved by NAFDAC, and their labeling is not in English.

NAFDAC emphasised that unregistered condoms pose risks due to uncertain safety, quality, and effectiveness. Poor-quality condoms may lead to unintended pregnancies or fail to protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance to remove the unregistered products.

Importers, distributors, and consumers are urged to exercise caution and only purchase medical products from authorized suppliers, checking the authenticity of items carefully.

Suspicions of substandard products can be reported to NAFDAC via their toll-free line, email, or through the Med-Safety app.
