The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected the proposed 50% increase in telecom tariffs by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), calling it unjustifiable and insensitive.

In a statement by Senate Clerk Oladimeji Uthman, NANS warned the tariff hike would worsen economic hardships, especially for students, and deepen the digital divide.

The association issued a 72-hour ultimatum for a reversal, threatening nationwide protests if ignored.

While acknowledging challenges faced by telecom providers, NANS urged the NCC and the Ministry of Communications to prioritise affordability and engage stakeholders in finding balanced solutions.

NANS reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful advocacy, vowing to resist policies that undermine access to education and essential services.
