NCAA Sanctions Airlines Over Regulatory Breaches.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned five airlines—two international and three domestic—for breaching passenger rights under its regulations.

Announcing the enforcement on Tuesday in Abuja, NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu said the violations include delayed refunds, mishandled luggage, and non-compliance with directives.

While disruptions due to harmattan-related poor visibility are excusable, Achimugu noted that the sanctioned airlines were at fault in specific cases.

The Authority recently warned airlines to adhere to refund timelines, requiring refunds within 14 days for online payments and immediate refunds for cash purchases.

The action follows rising complaints from passengers over cancellations and delays during the holiday season.

Although the sanctioned airlines were not officially named, sources suggest Ethiopian Airways, Royal Maroc Airways, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, and Air Peace are involved.

Achimugu added that airline executives will be summoned this week to address ongoing breaches.
