The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Ltd. from MTN Nigeria over unpaid interconnect charges.

The directive, issued on Friday and signed by NCC’s Public Affairs Director, Reuben Muoka, followed a review of the circumstances surrounding the outstanding debt.

The commission determined that Exchange Telecommunications lacked valid justification for its failure to settle the charges.

According to the NCC, the disconnection, guided by the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003 and 2012 procedural guidelines, will take effect after a five-day notice.

Once implemented, MTN will cease routing traffic through Exchange Telecommunications and will use alternative channels for interconnection.

The commission confirmed that the disconnection would remain in place until a resolution is reached.
