The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced urgent repairs on critical portions of the East-West Road, focusing on the severely damaged sections between Eleme Junction and Onne Junction.

The decision to initiate repairs stems from growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road, which connects key areas in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, posing challenges for daily commuters.

Speaking on the urgency of the repairs, the NDDC emphasised that the road is a vital link for the region, and further neglect could lead to its total collapse.

The agency has committed to completing the repairs within 30 days, promising a significant improvement in accessibility and travel time.

Motorists and residents in the affected areas have welcomed the move, highlighting how the current condition of the road has negatively impacted their journeys, sometimes stretching travel times to unbearable lengths.

This intervention is expected to not only ease the suffering of road users but also boost economic activities in the region, which have been stifled by the road’s poor state.
