The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has stressed the importance of cultivating a culture of prudence and savings among secondary school students.

Speaking at Government Day Secondary School Gandu during the 2024 World Savings Day event, themed “Act of Humanity,” NDIC Bauchi’s Zonal Controller, Ajiya Bazarma, highlighted the initiative’s goal to educate students in financial literacy as future leaders.

Bazarma explained the NDIC’s decision to hold the event in Gombe, part of the zone that includes Gombe, Bauchi, and Plateau states, to ensure broad coverage within its catchment area.

He noted, “By teaching young Nigerians about saving and financial management, we are preparing them to be financially literate, capable of investment, and cautious in spending.”

He further detailed NDIC’s role in bank supervision to protect depositor funds, adding that regular bank oversight helps prevent misuse and ensures depositor security.

The Principal of GDSS Gandu, Usman Buba, and Gombe State Commissioner for Education representative Isa Doho, commended the NDIC’s efforts, noting the positive impact of financial literacy on poverty reduction and student empowerment.
