Examiners hired by the National Examinations Council (NECO) to mark student exams in 2024 are threatening to launch nationwide protests, citing months-long delays in receiving their payments.

With the exams marked over three months ago and results already published, the unpaid examiners are expressing frustration and issuing NECO a two-week deadline to address their grievances.

A letter from Kano-based examiners to NECO’s Chief Registrar, now circulating among examiners in other states, outlines their concerns.

They argue that the delay in payments shows a lack of regard for their contributions, especially given current economic challenges.

The letter warns of coordinated protests and potential legal action if NECO fails to resolve the issue promptly.

Several examiners have confirmed their readiness to mobilize for a nationwide demonstration if the issue persists.

NECO’s CEO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, was unreachable for comment at the time of reporting.
