The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a warning to school owners and relevant stakeholders to stop enrolling candidates for its examinations through proxies.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the Council emphasised that this fraudulent practice often leads to identity theft and the issuance of fake results.

NECO expressed its commitment to eradicating examination malpractice and highlighted several measures it has implemented to combat impersonation during its exams.

These measures include the use of a Biometric Data Capturing Device, customized answer booklets, and the embossing of photographs and dates of birth on candidates’ original certificates.

NECO, also, introduced the e-Verify platform last year, an online tool for confirming and verifying the authenticity of NECO results.

The Council also reminded stakeholders that any certificate that cannot be verified through the e-Verify platform is deemed fake.

State Ministries of Education and school owners are urged to ensure that only genuine candidates with accurate personal details are registered for NECO examinations.

In the recently released results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal, NECO withheld the results of candidates involved in impersonation.

This move is to combat examination malpractice in all forms.
